INDEX BY TITLE

I live in the Midwest which is Big Ten country. Once conference play starts virtually every Big Ten game is televised in my region and I commit myself to try and watch all of them. I have three televisions set up as some games are being played at the same time. I have no bias or affiliation to any Big Ten team as I am a lifelong Notre Dame fan (I include ND games in my viewing schedule as well). My comments and reports are qualified only by my love of the game and an extreme commitment to watching and following Big Ten football.

BIG TEN FOOTBALL FTC WHAT HAPPENED WEEK 11

I went 1-2 last Saturday.  It appears as though a couple of teams may have packed it in for the season. My predictions and pre-game comments can be found on my previous post, dated 11-9 (ATS Predictions - Week 11).
My Current Overall Record:  5-10

THE PLAYS
Ohio St. 48  Michigan St. 3
Closing Line: Ohio St. -17.5
FTC Prediction: Ohio St. 21 Michigan St. 19
My ATS Pick: Michigan St. + 17.5
Result: Loss
Michigan St. came into the game with one of the best run defenses in the country. Ohio St. simply ran the ball right down the middle of the Michigan St. defense. Literally. Right past the defensive tackles, right past the linebackers, and in some cases, right past the secondary to the house. After about a quarter and a half of this, the Spartan defenders seemed to just give up. Offensively, Spartans RB L.J. Scott couldn’t seem to get going, and QB Brian Lewerke turned back into a pumpkin. Obviously I didn’t see any of this coming.

Northwestern 23  Purdue 13
Closing Line: Northwestern -5.5
FTC Prediction: Purdue 16 Northwestern 13
My ATS Pick: Purdue +5.5
Result: Loss
Purdue left too many scoring opportunities on the table in the first half, and I expected Northwestern to turn in a poor performance, which didn’t happen. I think the biggest difference in this game was that Northwestern has the better QB.

Penn St. 35  Rutgers 6
Closing Line: Penn St. -31
FTC Prediction: Penn St. 35 Rutgers 17
My ATS Pick: Rutgers +31
Result: Win
I got the win but it happened just the opposite of the way I predicted. Penn St. got off to a slow start and finished strong. Not the other way around.

THE NON-PLAYS
Indiana 24  Illinois 14
Closing Line: Indiana -9.5
FTC Prediction: Indiana 34 Illinois 23
My ATS Pick: Pass
I was a little high with the amount of scoring, but no real surprises in this one.

Michigan 35  Maryland 10
Closing Line: Michigan -17
FTC Prediction: Michigan 28 Maryland 10
My ATS Pick: Pass
I wasn’t too far off with my prediction on this one. Again, no real surprises here.

Wisconsin 38  Iowa 14
Closing Line: Wisconsin -11.5
FTC Prediction: Wisconsin 27 Iowa 20
My ATS Pick: Pass
I expected more from Iowa. QB Nate Stanley didn’t take any steps forward in this game. Wisconsin once again played up to the competition and made a nice statement here. I’m still not too sure if QB Alex Hornibrook can consistently move this team through the air when they face an opponent who can stop the Wisconsin rushing attack. Iowa was not that team in this game.

Minnesota 54  Nebraska 21
Closing Line: Minnesota -2
FTC Prediction: Nebraska 26 Minnesota 24
My ATS Pick: Pass
Geez, Nebraska. The Cornhuskers were almost a decent team there for a week or two. Not in this game. It appears as though the ‘Huskers have pretty much packed it in for the season.
